Hello everyone. This site is meant as a technology demonstration of the capabilities of the BeagleBone Black embedded development platform. It is also meant for IoT (Internet-of-Things) experiments and could be interfaced to sensors to monitor and control the environment.
There is a huge buzz with IoT and sometimes the way forward may be clouded different technological choices. At the present moment, I am looking at IoT for the purposes of creating a smart home as well as an assisted home for the elderly. My father is rapidly approaching 90 years of age and is suffering from dementia. On his lucid days, he still wants to live in his own home and by himself. Giving him the ability to do so will go a long way in maintaining his self-esteem and independence in his twilight years. One of his favourite things to do is to leave the lights on in every room of his house. Perhaps one of the first steps that can be taken is to automatically switch off lights based on room occupancy.
